Five Fingers Episode 1 : Off to a Good Start - mslee's thoughts + Cast

While waiting for other K-dramas English subtitles, I decided to see Five Fingers, SBS weekend drama replacing A Gentleman's Dignity on the same timeslot . Though it started 2weeks ago, now is the only time I get to see it. This is going to be my 3rd K-drama that I am currently following.

my thoughts...

To start off I am done watching Five Fingers episode 1. A story of a gifted pianist and a talented pianist because of hard work. Two children. Half brothers. One is arrogant, grew up wealthy. The other one abandoned [or as I understand] with only a grandmother to lean on. There is a wife who does not care about his husband's affairs. A marriage where there's betrayal and perhaps secrets. A wife who played the role perfectly through the eyes of an outsider. A wife who stick it out. The character [wife] can be devious or not, I am still not sure. She has a soft heart willing to love another child who is not her own. But at what cost? Until when will she sacrifice her son's feelings? A son who feels threatens by his new found half brother.  Surely the father has hidden motive. Was the child by his wife his?

Well these are my thoughts after watching episode 1. Five Fingers started in a very well executed episode 1. Pure drama. Intense. I like the pacing, it's fast and easy to grasp. Though there are still some questions unanswered, I know later on it will be revealed.  Chae Shi Ra [Chae Young Ran] who plays the mother and the wife of a very wealthy husband, Jo Min Ji [Yoo Man Se] is very good. As a viewer, I am not sure where her character will lead her. It is so easy to guess and to predict, but watching episode 1, there were scenes I have not anticipated. She was actually nice to the young Yoo Ji  Ho [Kang Lee Suk]. Even sincere in extending her affections. I know that Chae Young Ran will be a character to be reckoned with as the story goes. And I am intrigue on how her character will unfold and evolve.

As for the arrogant young Yoo In Ha [Kim Ji Hoon] I am wondering how his selfishness and insecurities  be dealt with.

Just a short recap...

The scene started off with the two adult lead characters, Ji Ho and In Ha, both playing the grand piano in a recital. [so I presumed] Both are talented and great but competing against each other. Next scene was Young Ran being trapped in a burning house with Ji Ho [setting?] the fire and leaving her even though she was begging for help. Then a flashback...14 years backwards. Ji Ho grew up with only his grandmother by his side while In Ha pampered and considered the only child. Young Ran was a devoted wife and daughter in law to her philandering husband and mother in law who apparently has Alzheimer's. She is a cold woman. Yet, injuring all pains. Ji Ho's grandmother died of hit and run and he was then brought to the big house and was met by his father Man Se.

Meeting him for the first time added tension and turmoil to the already deteriorating marriage. But the surrise was, although In Ha grew up playing the piano and being talented at that, Ji Ho has a perfect pitch. He could differentiate sounds from one another. And to their surprise, he learned piano easily.

This will be the core of the story. Rivalry between brothers.
